This area has been voted one of the UK's most desirable places to live. Not surprisingly since it enjoys a healthy rural climate, is close to several main metropolitan centres, accessible for major transport links, is served by modern communication networks and embodies an old-fashioned community spirit. In spite of developing into what from the air resembles a small town in recent years, East Leake has nevertheless retained its traditional 'village' identity and continues to exhibit signs of its rich and colourful history... With good shopping facilities (with free parking), friendly local pubs (one offering a free venue), two village halls (including St. Mary's church hall), at least five religious congregations, a choice of medical facilities and several sports and leisure facilities, East Leake has many of the features you might expect only in a town. There are two primary schools conveniently situated, a well rated secondary school, a modern leisure centre with swimming pool, a well designed safe children's' play park and extensive playing fields. Meadow Park and the rural areas beyond provide true countryside open spaces, rich in wildlife and natural beauty. There is somewhere for everyone from dog walkers and kite flyers, to cross country cyclists and hikers. For the local historian there are many opportunities in and around the area for historical research. East Leake has a long and interesting history of its own and a thriving local history society. For the naturalist there is the opportunity to discover some of our rarest plants and animals - kingfishers are a common sight in and around the village. For the sports enthusiast we have our own rugby, soccer and cricket teams, not to mention an excellent bowling team with first class facilities. Young people are encouraged to take advantage of these facilities.Equestrian pursuits are well represented in the area and there is an extensive golf course within walking distance of the village centre. If you have an interest in industrial archeology you'll find our local railway centres at Ruddington and Loughborough a mine of useful information and working exhibits. There are regular steam train services, terminating at Rushcliffe Halt station to the north of the village. |
